Administrator Training


The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and California Department of Education (CDE) Desired Results (DR) System Regional Training will offer virtual training for administrators. The training model includes virtual, facilitated training from October through May. Trainers will hold optional coffee hour sessions the second Thursday of every other month, November 2022–May 2023.

The administrator training incorporates an overview and in-depth information about the DR system; the implementation of the system at the classroom, program, and agency levels; reports including analysis of self-evaluation data and data for quality improvement; and additional support on specific components of the system. Participants also complete selected online modules available at California Early Childhood Online (CECO) www.caearlychildhoodonline.org.

Experienced administrators may attend any virtual session after October 5. The training session for administrators includes methods to support implementation of the DR system, updates, new products, and job aids. Please register for these sessions in advance.

Registration for administrators is on a first come, first served basis determined by the following priorities:

  • New California State Preschool Program (CSPP) administrators
  • Recommendation of CDE/CDSS consultant (required to attend all sessions)
  • New program directors and site supervisors
  • New administrators responsible for conducting the agency’s professional development
  • Quality Count California programs and family child care providers are welcome to attend. Some material or training sessions may not pertain to your current work.

The virtual training series session dates for administrators are as follows:

October 5, 2022, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. AND 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.* (new administrators only)

  • Overview of Desired Results System: 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • DRDP Online: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

October 6, 2022, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. AND 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.*

This full-day session will consist of four breakout session opportunities. Participants may register for two sessions which will include the following topics:

  • The Role of the Administrator in Supporting Inclusive and Equitable Practices: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
  • Administrators Guide to UPK and Strategies to Support Mixed Aged Groups: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
  • Using DRDP Online Reports to Support Children’s Learning and Development*: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Supporting Multilingual Learners in Early Childhood: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Tying It All Together

Participants will earn professional learning hours per session attended.

College Credit
Credit for one academic unit, or one continuing education unit, is available for the new administrator trainings. Academic unit requirements include attendance at all sessions, completion of selected virtual modules, completion of a final report, and an assignment.
