Administrator Training


The California Department of Education, Early Learning and Care Division’s (CDE/ELCD) Desired Results (DR) System Regional Training will offer hybrid training for administrators. The hybrid training model includes one-day, in-person training in both September and October with online training throughout the year for completion. ELCD will provide the one-day, in-person training sessions in two separate locations.

The administrator training incorporates an overview and in-depth information about the Desired Results system; the implementation of the system at the classroom, program, and agency levels; reports including analyzing self-evaluation data and using data for quality improvement; and additional support on specific components of the Desired Results system. Participants also complete selected online modules available at California Early Childhood Online (CECO) www.caearlychildhoodonline.org.

Experienced administrators may attend a full-day session in September and October, as well as webinars on the program self-evaluation in the spring. The online training session for experienced administrators includes methods to support implementation of the Desired Results system, updates, new products and job aids. Registration is required.

The full-day session in September or October will consist of four breakout session opportunities. Participants may register for two sessions which will include the following topics:

• Overview of the Desired Results System (required for new administrators)

• Dual Language Learners in Early Childhood: Resources to Prepare and Support Staff Working with Children and Families

• Supporting Teachers’ Use of DRDP Data, Foundations, and Frameworks to Promote Children’s Learning and Development (required for new administrators)

• Best Practices for Creating Family Partnerships and Supporting Family Culture

Registration for administrators is on a first come, first served basis determined by the following priorities:
• New California State Preschool Program (CSPP) contract awardees
• Recommendation of CDE/ELCD Field Services Office (FSO) consultant
• New program directors and site supervisors
• New administrators responsible for conducting the agency’s professional development

The in-person, one-day training session dates for administrators are as follows:

  • Sacramento, September 26, 2019  Location:  SETA Head Start, 925 Del Paso Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95815


  • Los Angeles, October 3, 2019  Location: The California Endowment, 1000 Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

The online training session dates for administrators are as follows:
Online Sessions: 9:00-11:00 a.m. OR 3:00-5:00 p.m.

  • January 16, 2020
  • March 11, 2020
  • May 7, 2020

Attendance is required for all dates. Experienced administrators may only attend the Program Self Evaluation session on May 7, 2020.
Please note these training sessions are limited to CDE/ELCD-funded agencies receiving this letter.

College credit:
Credit for one academic unit ($125) or 1 continuing education unit ($75) is available for the new administrator trainings. Academic unit requirements include attendance at all sessions, completion of selected online modules, completion of a final report, and an assignment.
