Preschool Resources

California Preschool Learning Foundations
The California Preschool Learning Foundations, Volumes 1-3 are available in English and Spanish and outline key knowledge and skills that most children can achieve when provided with the kinds of interactions, instruction, and environments that research has shown to promote early learning and development. The foundations can provide early childhood educators, parents, and the public with a clear understanding of the wide range of knowledge and skills that preschool children typically attain when given the benefits of a high-quality preschool program.

Free accompanying videos feature the nine domains in the California Preschool Learning Foundations publication. Each video covers a domain, showing preschool learning in action. Available at cdevideos.org.

California Preschool Curriculum Frameworks
The California Preschool Curriculum Frameworks, Volumes 1-3, include ideas for how to intentionally integrate learning into children's play; implement child-directed and teacher-guided activities; plan environments, interactions, routines, and materials that engage children in learning; and individualize curriculum based on children's knowledge, skills, needs and interests.

California Preschool Program Guidelines
The California Preschool Program Guidelines provides the detailed guidance needed by administrators and teachers to offer high-quality preschool programs that prepare children to arrive in kindergarten with the foundational skills necessary for school success. Guía del Programa Preescolar de California (PDF; 3MB; Posted 20-Dec-2017) is the Spanish translation of this document.

Infant/Toddler Resources

California Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations
The California Infant/Toddler Learning & Development Foundations are at the center of California's infant/toddler learning and development system. The foundations describe how children develop and what they learn, and are designed to illuminate the competencies that infants and toddlers need for later success. The Spanish translation of this document, Fundamentos del aprendizaje y el desarrollo infantil de California was published in 2010.

Free streaming videos of the California Infant/Toddler Learning & Development Foundations depict children's behavior for each of the 28 foundations at each of the three ages described in the foundations. There is an introductory overview of the foundations, a segment on "The Early Months," and extended segments provided with and without narration. Available at cdevideos.org.

California Infant/Toddler Curriculum Framework
The California Infant/Toddler Curriculum Framework supports early childhood educators working in programs serving children birth to three years of age in implementing high-quality curriculum practices that lead to acquisition of the knowledge and skills described in the Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations.

Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Program Guidelines, Second Edition
The Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Program Guidelines, Second Edition present information about how to provide high-quality early and care, including recommendations for program policies and day-to-day practices that will improve program services to all infants and toddlers.
